Joint transitions

In order to be able to cope with traffic loads and temperature changes, road, bridge and viaduct constructors take into account horizontal, vertical and longitudinal forces to which their designs are exposed in practice. The necessary flexibility does not allow one-piece design and therefore a joint transition is necessary.

But when a vehicle drives over such a joint, it gives an impulse-like sound. This noise is often a source of nuisance for local residents and is usually clearly audible at a greater distance. Because a work of art is at a higher height, the appearance towards the environment is very effective. VANKEULEN Advies bv has gained a lot of experience in recent years in measuring noise from and advice on silent joints.

Rijkswaterstaat

Recently, a "Directive on noise requirements for joint transitions" has been made available through the Construction Service of Rijkswaterstaat with which the noise of a joint transition can be clearly established and tested. VANKEULEN Advies bv now has a lot of experience with measuring joints and testing the results as prescribed in specifications.

We can also set up functional specifications for quiet joints in the specifications. This also applies to the lines. For this purpose, VANKEULEN Advies has developed a measurement protocol that is in line with the Directive.
